Summary:
The Perinatal Safety Specialist is responsible for planning, implementing, directing and/or evaluating patient safety and quality improvement to ensure the highest level of performance is achieved.
The Perinatal Safety Specialist reports to the system Vice President of Women s Services and works in partnership with the facility OB/Gyn Chairman and nursing leadership.
Essential Functions:
Successfully integrates patient safety principles into current practice.
Ensures that briefings, debriefings and other elements of team communication occur.
Ensures regulatory standards are being met Participates in the development of goals and action plans to achieve quality performance targets/benchmarks Monitors clinical outcomes.
Evaluates, analyzes and reports data required for clinical quality performance metrics Links evidence based practice to improvement strategies, using metrics to measure and assess improvement, facilitates inter-disciplinary teams, and implements tools to facilitate optimal performance Collaborates with staff and department Chairman to identify adverse events and near-miss occurrences.
Facilitates and promotes participation by all clinicians in educational programs and clinical simulation with a focus on enhancing effective teamwork and communication.
Uses multiple resources to communicate lessons learned from patient safety initiatives across the organization Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree required with Master s degree preferred.
Current NJ state RN licensure required.
National certification required EFM certified preferred Project management skills, including the ability to identify stakeholders, plan steps, coordinate and allocate resources to accomplish goals and objectives in a timely manner Leadership skills, including comfort with decision-making responsibilities Strong communication and interpersonal skills Five (5) to seven (7) years of clinical nursing experience in obstetrics with progressive responsibility and accountability required.
Quality improvement and patient safety knowledge preferred.
A working knowledge of regulatory and clinical guidelines that govern the Obstetrical area.
Strong working knowledge of MS Office:
Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Hours:
Mon-Fri 8-4:
30pm, this position will be situated 2 days at Oceanport and 3 days at MMC.
